Imagining future directions for gender equality
The report Imagining future directions for gender equality, published by the Scientific Analysis and Advice on Gender Equality in the EU (SAAGE) network, seeks to inform future policy and practice in the European Union across multiple policy areas over the next five years.
The SAAGE network is coordinated by Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini and funded by the European Commission with the aim to contribute to improving gender equality policies in the EU, and to raise awareness and promote action on gender equality in EU Member States.
Through its publications, SAAGE provides evidence, expertise, and policy-oriented reflections on key political and technical issues related to gender equality.
The latest report is edited by Niall Crowley, independent expert in equality and human rights, and Silvia Sansonetti, senior researcher at the Social Justice Area of Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini and expert in gender equality, and peer-reviewed by Professor Colette Fagan (University of Manchester).
Bringing together short essays written by 19 experts in the field, the publication reflects on current challenges while proposing future directions for advancing equality in the European Union.
The contributions are organised around four thematic areas: respect, resources, representation, recognition. Together, these themes address key dimensions of gender equality, including dignity, economic justice, decision-making power, and women's diversities.
The report concludes with a final set of essays focused on the drivers of gender equality, highlighting the role of legislation, strategy, mainstreaming, and targeted actions needed to advance progress across all four domains.
